halloween

for the

homeless

We are a new grassroots organization focused on helping the less-fortunate with the most basic essentials by offering above quality, decorated homes for Halloween in exchange for non-perishable food for the homeless and less fortunate.

In the beginning of October 2009, a few friends and I decided to post signs in front of our houses asking neighbors to donate can-goods or any other non-perishable food for the homeless in exchange for EXTRA Halloween treats. We felt with the downturn in our economy, we could help stock the food pantries for the upcoming Thanksgiving meals prepared by shelters and kitchens. The first year we were surprised to find we collected three boxes of food each from just our neighbors. During the last couple years, we increased our decorations to entice larger crowds and more donations. Last year was our biggest turnout yet; we even had a tour bus stop to take pictures and video.

This year, I decided to take things further by building a website and begin posting with social media sites. We would like to encourage others to join with us, showing their own decorated homes and posting their own little signs asking neighbors to donate.

By next year, our goal is to increase our total homes to at least one hundred. If every house collects just one box of food, it would help decrease the 18 year low the kitchens and shelters are having. A hundred boxes of food can go a long way in helping to fight hunger.

I know soliciting your help is a lot to ask, if you can't help this year, please keep us in mind for next year. If you decide to help, we will post your neighborhood on our website for families to come see your decorations and possibly donate to this worthy cause. I also will be more than happy to pick up any food donations you might have collected.

If you would like to come by and donate food, my address is positioned on the location part of the website, and if you can’t come by this time but still want to help financially, our office address is also placed on the contact part of the website.

 Thank you,

James Gabbriellini
